Types of Farm Fences

High-Tensile Farm Fence

High-tensile farm fences are a relatively inexpensive option that is easy to install and long lasting. It consists of thick wires set horizontally through insulators and attached to fence posts. Semi-permanent, high-tensile wire fencing is smooth and strong. The spacing between wires is determined by the type of livestock that needs to be contained. It may require a different number of wires to set up. For instance, one or two strands will be sufficient for cattle enclosures. High-tensile farm-fencing is recommended for sheep, horses, and goats.

Barbed Wire Fence

Whereas high-tensile fencing may cost a lot more for set-up, barbed wire fences are cheap and reliable. The option has been made available for a long time but has been declared illegal in some residential areas. Proper protection is needed when installing barbed wire farm fencing to avoid sustaining injuries.

Woven Wire Fence

Farm fences of woven wire is the fencing option of choice for many small farmers It is easy to install but does not require a power source such as in high-tensile fencing. Woven wire is suitable for perimeter and permanent farm fences. It can easily be removed if a more permanent fencing solution is to be set up. Ideal for cattle and poultry, woven wire fences are also used for containing hogs and horses.

Electric Net Fencing

Electric net fencing is mostly for pasture management. It is a type of portable fencing that uses plastic mesh woven with electrified strands. It effectively contains sheep, goats, cattle, and poultry. Compared to high-tensile fencing, the spacing in between the mesh net is much smaller, giving your livestock and poultry better protection against possible predators. The portability of electric net farm fencing allows you to move the fences where animals are grazing.

Poly Wire Fencing

Poly wire or poly tape is commonly applied in conjunction with wood fences. It consists of plastic that is threaded with conductive filaments designed to keep unwelcome predators out of the farm. Poly wire tapes do not last long. It is mostly used for temporary paddocks for horses, cattle, and larger animals.
